What I Like

The rhyming dictionary that the product offers is one of the good things about the product. It includes commonly used rhymes, even slang. So, if you are a songwriter, and you can’t seem to remember that word that is at the tip of your tongue, the product offers to help you in this endeavor. If you are not satisfied with the combination, Lyricist offers to have a system that lets you edit your own chord symbols. The album categorization that the product offers is also a plus. With a few clicks, you are able to organize your songs for easy reference.

What I Don’t Like

There are no samples of the products that they are offering, although the product is already believable. There are pictures, but they are too small to read. Plus, there is nothing written about the makers of the software.

Do I Recommend It?

Yes, this software is recommended. It promises to help you organize your lyrics so that you only have to deal with being creative and writing the lyrics themselves. According to the authors, this is for everyone, even those who are quite new to the music scene. Not only does the product promises to help you with organization, but it even includes the little things like programmable text styles and having a centralized database so that you can easily manage and backup your files.

A Closer Look At Lyricist

Posted by admin in June 2nd 2010

When Virtual Studio Systems introduced their Lyricist software back in 1999, some nay-sayers questioned how necessary it was to use a computer to do something they’d always used a pencil and paper for. After all, if you come up with a song idea while relaxing at the local pub, your cocktail napkin is a lot handier than your PC at the moment of inspiration. But a cocktail napkin is not exactly what you’d call a secure storage medium, and sooner or later you’ve got to put your precious lyrics somewhere a bit safer. Plus you’re probably using a rhyming dictionary, and maybe a thesaurus ultimately, there’s more to songwriting than jotting down a few lines on a beer-stained napkin. Every trade has its tools. And Lyricist quickly demonstrated itself, even to the hardcore non-believers, to be an efficient and well-designed technological means to a creative end. Now that VSS has released Lyricist v3, a piece of software that once might have been described simply as “handy” is now an easy-to-use essential powerful songwriter’s tool. If you’re a songwriter, you want Lyricist.

Other Lyricist Reviews

Posted by admin in June 2nd 2010

Here are just some reviews from people who have been using Lyricist to help them in making lyrics and in song writing.

Lately, along with writing new songs from the ground up, I have resurrected some songs that I never quite felt right about, and it seems like it is generally always because I didn’t quite have the maturity or the skill at my younger age to make the lyrics live up to the music. Sometimes I just needed to live more. This rewriting/editing process has been greatly helped by Lyricist! Sometimes that fresh approach leads to something that is literally re-invented, and the song lives.

It’s true that books on songwriting and even songwriting software will not make one a songwriter, but if one has it in them as something they need to do (like it is with most songwriters), a program like Lyricist sweeps away some of the “housekeeping” details and that helping hand can, in and of itself, tend to inspire you to do more.

I am certain that there are songwriters among your company of programmers, and to them, especially, I want to say thanks. Programming is definitely a discipline. I’ve touched on it very briefly; just enough to know that is true. I am sure that the overwhelming (huge) abundance of songwriters could never program a program like Lyricist, but you folks have brought that skill into focus for both yourselves and you fellow songwriters.

WE are music, and we write the songs. Your program and your efforts help to make that so.

Thanks!
J R Steele
